Community forestry in Newfoundland

Description 

This case study research examines rural communities of the Northern Peninsula, Newfoundland, within the context of changing forest markets, management, and planning; and changing rural demographics, economies, and culture. This research is intended to: 1) provide an in-depth examination of community needs and challenges in adapting to new forest tenures (particularly community forestry) and markets, and 2) support and facilitate community forest efforts already underway in the forest communities of Newfoundland. Research will include documentation of changes in the forest sector, rural demographics, and community capacity in the Northern Peninsula; and evaluation of rural and forest-related policies and institutions for their effectiveness in assisting community development and forest management.
