Identification and Assessment of New Technologies Impacting the Public Water Treatment System in the Communities of Milton and George’s Brook

The Local Services District for the communities of Milton and George’s Brook (Near Clarenville on the Bonavista Peninsula) are interested in exploring new technologies for public water treatment systems.

The current system is gravity flow from a pond located near Miton. The system is chlorinated but its impact is maximized due to the limited time of contact before going out to individual households. As a result, the system is considered outdated and it is in serious need of the identification and implementation of new technologies to assist in the treatment of water.

An engineering study was conducted in the community in 2009 indicating a new replacement system would cost in excess of $16M.

The Local Services District is interested in exploring other technologies in addition to the option for chlorination to help treat the water system.
