PURPOSE:
To determine optimal resource needs (money, services, skills, materials, products) of arts organizations and artists in Newfoundland and Labrador.
SCOPE:
To review and analyze any similar surveys in North America and elsewhere.
Representatives of arts organizations, individual artists, sector organizations and public funders to test and debate project purpose and methodology parameters.
Focus group to "test" terms of reference with a key informants located in at least two urban centres, three regional centres, and three rural areas.
To develop/design method(s) of information retrieval i.e. questionnaires etc.
To survey arts organizations and artists in the province to determine:
- core operating costs (definition required)
- annual/recurring project costs (festivals etc)
- "one-offs" or pilot projects (project costs)
To collate and analyze retrieved information.
To identify sector and geographic trends/needs.
To identify economic and intrinsic benefits of optimally resourced arts in the province.
FOLLOWUP AND IMPLEMENTATION
In partnership with Business and Arts NL to develop strategies to offset identified shortfalls that inhibit optimal arts activities in the province
