Skilled Labour Shortages on the Great Northern Peninsula

Description

Objective:

To research the present and possible future labour shortage on the Great Northern Peninsula, what impacts they will have, and what can be done.

Background:

Labour shortages will increasingly become a problem on the Great Northern Peninsula because people are getting older and there are not enough young people to fill the positions. One specific area in which there are shortages is finding seasonal workers for the summertime months in Gros Morne. There has been some research started in Zone seven - households and businesses were interviewed. Further research is needed that would explore what labour shortages there are and what to expect in the future. This information will make it clear what kinds of educational shortfalls there are and thus, what strategies need to be implemented to address the labor shortages.

Roles for Memorial University:

Research the current and possible future labour shortages on the Great Northern Peninsula and suggest strategies for addressing this problem.
