Obtain baseline data related to the health of native bees in Labrador

Research is urgently needed regarding the existing pathogen, disease, and pest profiles of native bees in Labrador for long-term monitoring, climate change research, as well as risk assessment related to the re-introduction of Apis mellifera colonies there. Research elsewhere in North American and Europe provides evidence of pathogen spillover between A. mellifera and Bombus species. We have an opportunity to prevent or at least better manage the pathogen spillover problem in Labrador, but a baseline profile of pathogens, diseases and pests must be established before any risk assessment can be conducted and management strategies developed. http://nlbeekeeping.ca/data/documents/NLBKA_research_priorities29mar2017...
