Economic Development Concerns/Prospects of Marine-Related Infrastructure in Western Newfoundland

Objective:

Develop a regional marine infrastructure assessment in order to identify and recommend current and/or future enhancements/improvements/proposed new construction in the region.

Background

The Stephenville - Port Aux Basques Rural Secretariat is mandated to advise government about the policies and programs which will aid in the future sustainability of rural Newfoundland and Labrador. Marine transportation and infrastructure is an important factor in this area which includes the Stephenville, Bay St. George South and Port aux Port Peninsula areas extending to the Codroy Valley and Port aux Basques in the south. It also includes communities along the south coast from Isle aux Morts to Francois in the east.

Roles for Memorial University:

Provide a graduate student to carry out community based research around marine related infrastructure.
