Living Rural: Exploring the Benefits of Living in Rural Newfoundland and Labrador

Description

Objective:
Enhance our knowledge of the benefits of living in rural areas and promote these benefits for an increase in population through in-migration.

Background:
There is a perception of labour shortages in the skilled trades and professional fields in Canada and within this province. Rural communities have much to offer such as low crime rates, safe communities, clean air, education and medical services, recreational benefits, etc. Validating the benefits of living in rural Newfoundland and Labrador will provide a tool that can be used to promote the region which could help the labour challenges, contribute to sustainability of our rural communities, and overall contribute to the economy of the province.

Roles for Memorial University:
Conduct research on the benefits of living in rural Newfoundland and Labrador. Compile a briefing document or report on the findings.
