Pinkie swearing, a children’s concept of gaining trust, is a new topic in children’s lore. Since the 1990s, it has become universal knowledge for children, similar to the “Cross Your Heart” promise of yesteryear. By intertwining pinkies, a child creates a sense of law or trust with each other.
This paper explores critically and analytically the similarities and differences between the physical actions of the pinkie swear bur also the metaphorical reason for pinkie swearing. My conclusions help to give an overall basis for pinkie swearing and future exploration in new areas of law in children’s lore.
