As part of a multi-year project preserving, transcribing and expanding on the Bowater Oral History Collection (1980), Rose and Bodner, in partnership with the Corner Brook Museum and Archives and the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Mill, are continuing an oral history project to record and preserve the historic, cultural and economic heritage of Corner Brook, particularly the logging industry and pulp and paper mill, and surrounding Bay of Islands communities. This stage of the project is dedicated to discovery and assessment of materials (photographs, documents, A/V materials, etc.) held in various locations, digitize selected items and, in consultation with partners, design and present a selection of visual and audio materials to be displayed as part of the Mill’s centenary in 2024-2025. The display will be museum quality mobile “pop-ups” with the audio available via ipad stations. The display will be a travelling exhibit and will also be part of public talks. These public events will support Phase III of the project (not funded by this application): the recruitment of interviewees for oral history interviews.
