Newfoundland and Labrador has a wide range of important fossil organisms preserved here, and we hope to engage with all Newfoundland and Labradorians to select an official fossil for the province. Several other Canadian provinces have official provincial fossils, and we think we should have one too!
Newfoundland and Labrador is incredibly rich in palaeontological heritage, with important fossil-rich sites found around the province. Newfoundland is also home to hundreds of other fossils sites as well as visitor information centers. Many locals, however, are unaware of their own fossil heritage and why it is important. This competition is intended to make Newfoundlanders and Labradorians aware of - and excited about! - the many unique palaeontological treasures found right here in our own province.
