The goal of this project is to deliver readings by nationally established writers to the Corner Brook community, and to strengthen bonds between Grenfell Campus literary initiatives and the community of Corner Brook. For many years Grenfell has hosted distinguished authors for readings, workshops, and panels. While these events have been successful within the university, they tend not to reach a wider community audience.
As a partner, the Corner Brook Rotary Arts Centre provides the perfect venue for cultivating a stronger relationship between Grenfell arts programming and the wider community. The RAC has a modern facility, ticketing and marketing infrastructure, and a central location. Since its inception it has emerged as the premiere venue in Corner Brook for music and dramatic productions. It also boasts an art gallery and features a regular schedule of community arts programming. However, David Smallwood, the RAC's director, has found it difficult to organize literary programming. Therefore, partnering with Grenfell provides a mutually beneficial relationship, one where we organize literary events, and the RAC helps with the hosting of those events. It is our mutual belief that this will make those events accessible and comfortable for a wider community audience in a manner that will highlight productive work being done by Grenfell as a public partner.
