OpenAR is a collaborative endeavour that unites a diverse group of stakeholders, including tech giant Microsoft, industry leaders Equinor and Technip FMC, ship and ship system designers Vard and Blue CTRL, regulatory authorities like the Norwegian Coastal Administration and Norwegian Maritime Authority, as well as academic experts specializing in AR and operations from institutions such as the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, University of South-Eastern Norway, and the University of Bergen.
The primary objective of OpenAR is to harness the immense potential of Augmented Reality (AR) in enhancing advanced maritime operations. AR technology has the capability to mitigate risks and enhance efficiency within maritime workplaces by overlaying pertinent numerical and graphical information directly onto a mariner's field of view through head-mounted displays.
