Utkuhiksalingmiut Inuktitut Dictionary Project

Lay Summary

The Utkuhiksalingmiut Dictionary Project, a joint project of researchers at Memorial University and the University of Toronto, is recording the language of the Utkuhiksalingmiut or “people of the soapstone place", at the mouth of the Back River in the Central Canadian Arctic.

Utkuhiksalik is a Central Canadian dialect of Inuktitut, closely related to Natsilik. The project includes a dictionary of word-bases and a supplementary dictionary of postbases (affixes). A developing draft of the postbase dictionary is available online.
