Community Owned Renewable Energy for Newfoundland

Lay Summary

The 2007 Energy Plan for Newfoundland & Labrador outlines the strategy for moving forward with energy production and distribution for many years into the future. This study challenges the basis of this study with respect to electricity generation on the island portion of the province. The total potential for small hydro and wind projects on the island is identified along with some of the possible benefits of developing provincial policy and transmission systems supporting community owned, small-scale, renewable energy projects. The technical study and modeling indicates that there are more than enough traditional renewable energy sources to provide for all foreseeable power requirements on the island.
