Lay Summary
FARM held the Future of Food Roundtable, in October, 2014, to discuss food issues in Newfoundland and Labrador. There was a panel of six speakers (2 farmers, 2 restauranteurs, 1 food security expert and 1 graduate student). University members and the public were invited via posters, email and our FARM website. There was lots of interest! The problem of accessing local food (fish, meat, fresh vegetables) became a key topic. There were also comments on various aspects of the food system that lead to difficulties for consumers and producers alike. The discussion ended with a request to seek more information about food policy in NL and how it influences everyone's access to nutritious, affordable and fresh food.
