Understanding Stephen and Florence Tasker’s 1906 Labrador Expedition
A research project prompted by the exciting discovery of the Taskers' 1906 expedition photo album in the Memorial University Archives. The album was described and digitized at the Labrador Institute (see https://gazette.mun.ca/research/paddling-the-north/ for a video interview with Morgon Mills and Linda White). Subsequent research has led to the submission of a manuscript, “Stephen and Florence Tasker and Unromantic Labrador,” to Newfoundland and Labrador Studies, discussing the implications of the Taskers’ perspectives and prose style to Labrador literature and depictions of aboriginal society. A presentation, “Stephen and Florence Tasker’s 1906 Labrador Expedition,” is also scheduled for the 2017 Labrador Research Forum.
