The Shea Heights Community Alliance is a partnership between the health centre, community board, and St. John Bosco School. Their goal is to help improve youth mental health and wellness, so they attempted to create innovative ways to encourage youth to seek care. There was a concern that youth were not seeking care for issues related to metal health or other sensitive health-related needs, and thus may not be receiving the care they need. The health centre worked with the school and community center to encourage youth to visit the health center. A youth-friendly space was created, and they obtained an iPad with age-appropriate electronic information tools and resources and set this up in a dedicated area for youth. This helped to create a more welcoming atmosphere and helped to empower youth by providing accurate health-related information. Efforts to engage youth in healthy behaviours and practices remains a priority for the Alliance.
