The Research Centre for the Study of Music, Media, and Place (MMaP) partnered with local singers Eleanor Dawson and Jim Payne (SingSong Inc.) to present an annual festival celebrating Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich folk song and narrative traditions.

Morning and afternoon events featured thematic sessions on “Captains and Ships” and “Ghosts and Gallows,” as well as a traditional song circle (session performers: Paul Dean, Bill Bowman, Joe Byrne, Monica Walsh, Gary Green, Eleanor Dawson, Tony Power, Mary Ellen Wright, and Linda Byrne). The festival concluded with an evening concert, hosted by Jim Payne, featuring performances by prominent local folk singers and musicians, including Ellen Power, Mark Manning, Dave Penny and Daunt Lee, and Christina Smith & Jean Hewson with Frank Maher and Rick West (the Mahers Bahers).

The event featured song and recitation performances by Denis Nash, Rosemary Lawton, Hubert Furey, Monica Walsh, and Jim Payne & Fergus O’Byrne.
