This research project is a study of the forms, different strengths and weaknesses, and connections of advocacy practices amongst parents across Canada who support their trans and gender diverse children. We are conducting a national study based on Participant Action Research, Collaborative Auto-ethnography, and Media Analyses of news representations of trans kids in Canada. We examine different forms of advocacy -- from community activism, support groups, parenting, school and health care interventions, and human rights challenges – and we examine the general characteristics of these forms of advocacy, such as gender, race, sexuality, and geographical region to better understand the needs and successes of parent advocacy of trans kids in Canada.
