Thriving communities, healthy connections: A new initiative on the Great Northern Peninsula

Lay Summary

With collaborators from the Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital Heritage Corporations, the Western Regional School of Nursing, and the School of Science and the Environment, Grenfell, we held two community meetings. Held in Port au Choix, the first meeting included the Board of Directors of the newly formed Community Place, which is developing a health and community hub for Port au Choix. The second meeting was held in St Anthony, and brought together community, NGO, and municipal stakeholders in conversation with researchers and students about food access and farming in St Anthony. The meetings mobilized research completed at Grenfell Campus, WRSON, and St John's Campus, and provided an important venue for discussion around social sustainability and food access in rural, coastal communities.
