Arctic Ship Structures Design Support Activities

Lay Summary

The Arctic is the subject of intense interest. BMT have sponsored a program of research at Memorial called the BMT Ocean and Arctic Structures Research Program, C. Daley, Director. Core research is being done with BMT and NSERC funds.

As well, with BMT, we are working with several large offshore engineering and shipbuilding firms in US Europe and Asia (7 large firms to date), supporting their efforts to develop ice-capable ships and ocean structures. Generally these are activities driven by oil and gas activities in arctic and sub-arctic ice-covered waters, but also involve fabrication, transport and mining sectors. Related work on standards for government and non-government regulatory bodies is also within the scope.
