Treatment/Management and Risk Assessment of Mining and Metals Processing Waste Streams

Lay Summary

There are many ongoing projects in this area with the focus of minimizing/mitigating the environmental impacts of mining and metals processing on the environment. We are performing research in areas such as; hydrometallurgical waste water risk assessment and characterization, hydraulic and chemical modeling of the waste water pond to determine discharge levels of key chemical species, rates of formation and degradation of chemical species in the ponds, and metals recovery as a valuable by-product from the waste waters.
