Molecular and Immunological Mechanisms of Hepatitis B and C
Studies focused on the understanding of the molecular and immunological mechanisms underlying development of liver diseases caused by infections with hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) viruses. Recognition of a role of viral and host factors in the establishment of chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Investigations on identification and pathological consequences occult HBV and HCB infections. Development of sensitive molecular assays for detection of viral pathogens. Preclinical testing of the efficacy of new antiviral agents against hepatitis B and C in the animal and cell culture models.
