'Crossing Seven Seas' is a participatory project built from community engagement around a restaurant in Corner Brook, the Seven Seas Restaurant. The restaurant was active from the 1970s-1990s and has been closed since approximately 2000. The interior of the building has not been changed since.
This Quickstart project will enable the project team (and community partners) to gather important material from the site itself (through photographic archiving), and also through engagement with community in the form of oral memories, and collection of mementoes. The project addresses collective memory, newcomer and multi-cultural identity, and civic history.
This project is intended to be the first step in an ongoing project that may develop into an immersive experience, and/or a performance based presentation.
