The NSERC CREATE Training Program for Offshore Technology Research (OTR) has been established as an innovative and collaborative research and training program to address significant scientific challenges in offshore design and operations, and to train highly qualified personnel (HQP) for the growing offshore industry. This will be achieved through a comprehensive program including research, coursework and internship placement.
The research will be focused on the following four themes: (1) floating structures; (2) mooring lines and risers; (3) corrosion material engineering; and (4) subsea systems for offshore exploration, installation, operation, inspection and maintenance. Each student will undertake a research topic in one of the theme areas under the supervision of leading researchers. Students will also participate in specialized courses and seminars in key topics in offshore technology offered by Memorial faculty and/or invited industry leaders.
The innovative nature of the program lies in providing a value-added internship experience to complement the university research and education environment. Research internship opportunities with national and international partners have been identified to promote interaction of the students with industry and to facilitate students to develop professional and research skills valuable for transition into the workforce.
