Toward Supporting the Educational Development of ESL Children in Newfoundland
This project aims to examine issues related to learning in the school context for a particular group of vulnerable childrenESL students in the primary and elementary grades. This study examines five questions: 1. What are the experiences of ESL parents in the process of transitioning their children to school and in supporting the educational development of their children? 2. How do educators (provincial and school-board-level administrators, school administrators, classroom teachers, ESL teachers, other educators) support the transition to school for ESL children and their families, and support the children in their educational progress? 3. How are ESL children in this province progressing in school both academically and socially? 4. What community supports are available to assist newcomer families to help children make a successful transition to school and achieve educational success? 5. Are there areas of support that need to be developed or enhanced to facilitate the ESL childrens educational growth at home, at school, and in the community?
