In 2016 Student Life is partnering with the Departments of German, Computer Sciences and Geography, the QEII Map Room, and the East Coast Trail Association (ECTA) in an interdisciplinary, community-based teaching and learning project. Students of many disciplines will use skills and data acquired within their academic programs towards the creation of an IOS mobile application for hiking the East Coast Trail. During the project underway, Geography students will collect and process data in the field and in the lab to digitally map the trail. German students will translate information for the application and static directional signage as part of their curricula. Computer Science students will create an app for public use, supported by ITS. The entire project will be conducted in collaboration with ECTA staff and contractors, who, along with faculty, will mentor students.
